Consular Registration

Consular Registration is the first consular act performed on behalf of a national residing abroad. It is a voluntary act, but mandatory for the execution of any other consular act. All citizens of Angolan nationality, whether adults or minors, who are residing abroad have the right to register. Consular registration is free of charge.

For Consular Registration, the Angolan citizen must present the following documents:
  • Photocopy of Identity Card or Passport
  • Two Passport-sized Photographs
Birth Certificate Transcription

The Birth Certificate Transcription is done based on a birth certificate issued by the local authorities of the country where the birth occurred.

Who can request it?

Any of the parents, provided that at least one of them has Angolan nationality.

Requirements
  • Petition addressed to the Consul General, requesting the transcription of the registration American birth certificate
  • Translation of the American birth certificate (original) into Portuguese
  • Parents' identification documents
  • All documents in a FOREIGN language must be translated into Portuguese by official translators and must be notarized.
  • The applicant must send a prepaid return envelope
  • Consular fee of $35.00 - Payment (MONEY ORDER ONLY in the name of the "Angola Consulate")
  • NOTE: The declarations contained in the Birth Registration must be in accordance with the documents presented by the parents at the time of the act
Transcription Of Marriage Record

Like all acts subject to Registration, the Marriage of Angolan citizens celebrated abroad must be communicated to the Central Registry Office in Angola, which will proceed with its endorsement in the margin of their birth certificate registration and, consequently, change their marital status.

It is not enough to have contracted marriage in the civil registry of the country where you reside, to change your marital status in national documents, therefore, it requires consular transcription, for subsequent submission to the Central Registry Office in Angola.

In this case, one of the documents to be presented at the time of marriage transcription is the original marriage certificate celebrated in the USA.

Requirements
  • Petition addressed to the Consul-General requesting the marriage ceremony or the registration of a marriage conducted on American territory
  • Valid birth certificate
  • Identification documents of the Bride and Groom
  • Photocopy of the military registration of the bride/groom
  • Identification document of two witnesses
  • Consular Registration
  • Copy of Passports for foreign spouses
  • All documents in a foreign language must be translated into Portuguese by official translators recognized by a notary
  • Consular fee of $100.00, payable via Money Order only, made out to the
